Books and Articles:
Books recommended Between Heaven and Earth; Christian Perspectives on environmental protection by Fred Van Dyke - A good book to give someone who isn't a Christian but an environmentalist. Deals with ethics and leads gently into a Christian perspective. It comes more from a science background. The author also writes on church history in relation to ecology. (I have the Kindle version) 'Caring for Creation' Edited by Sarah Tillett. A collection of theological writings from people who care about creation, plus testimonies from A Rocha people of creation care in practice. 'God doesn't do waste' redeeming the whole of life by Dave Bookless 'This
story, both of A Rocha UK and of the 'Bookless Bunch', is wonderfully and
movingly told. It brought tears to my eyes and inspired me in my desire to love
God and look after all that he has made. Dave has been one of the pioneers in
calling the Church to pick up its mandate to take care of God's world and it has
been my privilege to work with him and learn from him. I have no hesitation in
encouraging you to read this book - you won't regret it!' --Ruth Valerio, author
of 'L is for lifestyle' 'How to Rescue the Earth Without Worshipping Nature' by Tony Campolo. Another thought provoking book from this larger than life character. ''L' is for Lifestyle: Christian Living That Doesn't Cost the Earth' by Ruth Valerio So how can we live more responsibly? In this A-Z, Ruth Valerio highlights the main threats to people and our planet, God's beloved creation. She shows us how, by making small changes to our lifestyle, we can learn the secret of a life that is both fair and simple. NRSV The Green Bible A Priceless Message That Doesn't Cost the Earth with various articles and quotes from historical figures and present day personalities. The essays in the front are well presented but not sure the actual green text in the bible works that well. Planetwise: Daring to Care for God's World by Dave Bookless. This book is a very readable 'manual' of what Creation Care is all about. It presents the argument from a biblical view where Creation to the Return of Christ Scripture Union's Connect booklet entitled ' Thinking Biblically About Climate Change by Richard Bull. The Birds Our Teachers - Biblical lessons from a lifelong birdwatcher by John Stott. An informative little book with great photos telling us what we can learn from birds in relation to the bible, God and our lives. What John calls Orni-theology. The Mission of God: Unlocking the Bible's Grand Narrative by Christopher J Wright, believes that there is a missional basis for the whole Bible - it is generated by, and is all about, God's mission. He offers a comprehensive and wide-ranging interpretative approach as the basis for holistic Christian mission. 'The Message of Creation' by David Wilkinson. A Bible commentary on this important subject based on various passages which talk on creation. 'Under the Bright Wings' by Peter Harris, forward by John Stott. The Story of the beginnings of A Rocha. Very readable but also rich. [Recommend Ecologist magazine for a non-Christian perspective about £3.50 from WHSmiths or view online]
